A certain trend has come to my attention over the past couple of years, and past several months on this site: apathy. Sure, I'm not a hugely popular artist on this site, I know this. However, just a few short years ago I would get a few favourites on a piece, but I'd also never fail to receive a handful of comments along with them. Nowadays I get quite a number of favourites, but comments are a rare thing.
As much as I appreciate the favourites, it is really quite difficult for me to understand why people liked my work, or even why they didn't like it when all the feedback I get is a stark silence. Feedback is a crucial component of an artist's growth; if they want to know what the people want to see, the people have to tell them. Such people may also have fresh viewpoints and more experienced eyes, and to hear these differentiating opinions is truly a wondrous thing.
So, what happened? Has DeviantART just gotten too big? Has the development of groups been filling people's inbox so much that they simply don't have the time to look through everything, favourite, and comment? Or do people just no longer give a shit? I only want to know what is good about my work, and what sucks about it via direct interaction with my viewers.
